Our kindergarteners are excited to learn about Advent as they prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ. The students have watched weekly Mass and have recognized changes during the Advent season, including the color purple and the Advent wreath on the Altar. They also created their own Advent wreaths. Each week students will add a flame to their candles as they wait with anticipation. This month students will continue to learn more about Advent and why we celebrate Christmas.

In social studies the kindergarteners also learned about needs and wants. This was a great topic to address as Christmas approaches. The students identified some of the items on their Christmas wish lists and how those items are mainly wants. Although wants can be fun to play with or tasty treats, students know they aren’t needed for survival. This also tied in with what students have been studying in science as they learned about the needs of plants and animals.
